Answer:

Applied social sciences are those academic social science disciplines, professions and occupations which seek to use basic social science knowledge, particularly from sociology, economics and political science, and to a lesser extent psychology, social psychology and anthropology to make an impact on the daily life of communities, organizations and persons. Some authorities would also include portions of economics, and in particular economic analysis and economic planning as applied social sciences. (Others tend to see economics not as a social but as natural science, more comparable in some respects to physics.)

Social work, public health, urban planning, and public administration may have been the original applied social sciences in the U.S. All arose out of social reform movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Management, community organization, social planning, policy analysis, epidemiology, community medicine, and strategic planning are some of the many related applied social sciences to arise from this base.

Urban planning, like landscape architecture and architecture can be considered applied social sciences to the extent they are concerned with the effects on humans of the built environment. In each case, applied social science concerns (in particular, the use of social research findings) are intermixed with technical, engineering, aesthetic and other concerns

Answer:

Hello there. I may not the expert of science. But I have learned about applied science since 2010. I think, actually those two terms are in different corridor of science.

APPLIED SCIENCE

Applied science is a discipline that used to apply existing scientific knowledge based on scientific researches and also to developing a practical application of science - such as technology, methodology, inventions.

So basically, the main concern of applied science is about scientific knowledge and how to practice it into the real world. This can be a scientific and practical contribution to people. Applied science's neccessity is triggered by research question which become the problem to be solved. It usually produces practical steps, practical decisions, as tools to answer the existing problem.

It helps stakeholders to develop the systems to be better. Applied science related to economical aspects. A common question in applied science is what's the short-term and long-tern impact if the existing problem is not be solved? What is the practical solutions for the problem so the negative impacts won't be happened in future? The question like these would be answered in applied science.

SOCIAL SCIENCE

And this I know about the other one.

Social science is a study of human behavior, relationship with other human in terms of emotions, psychologic, the impact of belief to environment based on scientific research.

Social science usually uses many tools to get information, to measure, to evaluate, even to control human behavior. Have you ever heard about "social experiment"? It is one of many tools that can be used in social science in order to get information about people's reaction to some conditions which are the hypothesis of the study.

In my opinion, social science research is triggered by curiosity about the current event of social life. It may be not something wrong or a problem. But it may helps us to understand about human behavior, how to treat people, how to live socially healthy.

I've tried to conclude my thought into this.

27. applied social sciences and its disciplines

Answer:

Subject Description: This course introduces some Applied Social Sciences, namely, Counseling, Social Work, and Communication, which draw their foundation from the theories and principles of Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, and other Social Sciences.

Explanation:

Applied social science is the application of social science theories, concepts, methods, and findings to problems identified in the wider society (D. Jary & J. Jary 2000). Using this understanding in the segmentation of social science into distinct disciplines gives rise to the concepts of applied social sciences that include counseling, social work, and communication.

The disciplines of social sciences generally include: anthropology, economics, sociology, political science, history, criminology, psychology, geography, and communication studies. The goal of these disciplines is to explain human behavior in its many cultural forms including the past and the present, individually or in groups, national and international geopolitical contexts, and to empower them as democratic participants in a rapidly changing world. The disciplines of social science taken together provide a substantive insight to the understanding of society and of the relationship of individual members and groups within the society.

The disciplines also study all areas related to human behavior and society, the institutions and functioning of human society, and the interpersonal relationships of individuals as members of society as well as dealing with a particular phase or aspect of human society. To put this in context, the enumerated disciplines above give the sense of complexity and specificity to the disciplines involved
