11. reflection about the give up tomorrow documentary

At first I was clueless about this documentary, until I saw it. I was still at a very young age when the case of the Chiong sisters and the conviction of Paco Larrañaga broke out the news in the 90s. We have heard both sides, but Paco’s side really struck me.

There are always two sides in every story, but the truth is somewhere in the middle of these stories. However, this documentary (Give Up Tomorrow) is more convincing (for me) than the story of the alleged victims. To be honest, I was a bit bothered by the Chiong family, and the sincerity is quite uncertain. I think if justice was wrongly served in this case, at least part of the truth may be heard and known to the public, even if the final decision was already made.

12. * Watch these two documentary films about climate change: UNOS by Loren Legarda or BAGYO by Dingdong Dantes. * Make a summary and reflection about the documentary films and you must give one pledge on how to lessen further elevation of Global warming.

As an student from UPD, However, based on the information available online, here is a brief summary and reflection on the two documentary films about climate change:

1. UNOS by Loren Legarda: This documentary film explores the impact of climate change in the Philippines, focusing on how it affects the lives of ordinary Filipinos. The film shows how extreme weather events such as typhoons, floods, and droughts are becoming more frequent and severe due to global warming. It also highlights the efforts of various organizations and individuals to address climate change and adapt to its effects.

2. BAGYO by Dingdong Dantes: This documentary film focuses on the devastating impact of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in the Philippines, which was one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded. The film shows how climate change contributed to the intensity and destructive power of the typhoon, and how it affected the lives of millions of people in the affected areas. It also highlights the resilience and spirit of the Filipino people in the face of such a disaster.

Both documentary films are powerful reminders of the urgent need to address climate change and its impact on our planet and our lives. They also serve as a call to action for individuals, organizations, and governments to take responsibility and work together to mitigate the effects of climate change.

One pledge that we can make to lessen further elevation of global warming is to reduce our carbon footprint by making small changes in our daily lives. This could include using public transportation or carpooling instead of driving alone, reducing energy consumption at home, eating more plant-based foods, and supporting eco-friendly businesses and products. By taking small steps and making sustainable choices, we can all contribute to the fight against climate change and create a more livable future for ourselves and future generations.

13. reflection about kinabuhi documentary film

Kinabuhi, is a story about Filipino Coconut Farmers struggling to survive a way-of-life exploited by industrial agriculture and crippled by disasters like Typhoon Haiyan. The film was featured by The United Nations at the 2015 Climate Conference in Paris, has won 3 international film festivals, and was awarded the prestigious Vimeo Staff Pick. The documentary depicts the poignant life of what the coconut farmers go through on a daily basis. Set in the lush countryside of the Visayas region of the Philippines in Eastern Samar, the film pans over the farmers work day while a voiceover of one of the farmers speaks in Eastern Viasayan Waray dialect to the viewer off camera:
“Life is all around us. I am with my friends. The earth provides happiness to my life and soul.”
“Kinabuhi,” in this language, means “life.” And the coconut palm tree to them is life for them to live.
“The coconut is my life.”

14. Write your reflections on the influences or effects of the arts and what makes Art valuable as you watch the documentary

After watching the documentary, I have come to realize that art has a powerful influence on our lives. It can be used to express emotions, tell stories, and create beauty. Art can also be used to bring people together and foster understanding between different cultures. Art is valuable because it allows us to explore our creativity and express ourselves in unique ways. It can also be used to educate and inspire others. Art is valuable because it has the power to move us emotionally, challenge our beliefs, and open our minds to new perspectives. Art is valuable because it helps us connect with each other and understand each other better.

22. Make a 350 words reflection analysis paper about the documentary film about "The Kingmaker", align your analysis based on Historical Criticism.

The Marcoses’ patent mediocrity and corrupted brand identity appear to have put serious political power out of reach for them, for now. But their resurgent cynicism and corruption created the conditions for Rodrigo Duterte, the quasi-fascist strongman president who is shown contemptuously tolerating the Marcoses for what they could yet do for him. It seems at first as if this is going to be simply a black-comic portrait of entitlement, comparable to Greenfield’s 2012 film The Queen of Versailles. Actually, it is more than that a larger, tragic picture of tyranny and corruption in the Philippines that might stand alongside Josh Oppenheimer’s The Act of Killing (2012) and The Look of Silence (2014) about the repression and slaughter in Indonesia. There are exquisitely horrible moments in this portrait when Marcos, taking us around her fabulous Manila home, and speaking in an absurdly queenly and soft-voiced way about her lifestyle and her plans for the future, unknowingly reveals how loathsome she is. Or perhaps she does know and doesn’t care, and has a shrewd sense of how her outrageousness plays well with a certain part of her (sizeable) fanbase. But it is truly stomach-turning as she gives banknotes to poor little children in the street and, on being taken to a children’s cancer hospital, Madame Marcos winces with disgust at their poverty and suffering and says to an aide: “Give me some money to give away.” At their height, the Marcoses took the cash intended for roads, schools, etc., and converted it into jewels, paintings, and prime Manhattan real estate, while striking brutally at civil rights, using detention and torture. Their rival, Benigno Aquino, was imprisoned, exiled, and finally murdered, and his widow, Cory, was later to take over as president herself. There are wrenchingly emotional interviews with those who were detained and tortured under the Marcos regime. A grisly symbol of corruption is the bizarre wild animal reserve that Imelda created on Calauit Island, a vanity project that involved moving hundreds of families off the land, and whose giraffes are now not properly cared for like everyone and everything else.
