Summary

The Orientation

As Mitch pulls up to Morrie's house in his rental car, he is on the phone with his producer. Morrie sits in a wheelchair on his front lawn waving at Mitch, though Mitch slinks down in the seat of his car and finishes the conversation with his producer before he greets him, their first reunion in sixteen years. He regrets this, and wishes he had immediately dropped the phone and run to hug and kiss his professor. Mitch is surprised at the intense affection with which Morrie greets him, and, hugging him, feels that no trace remains of the good student Morrie remembers him as being. Inside, Connie, Morrie's aide, serves the men food and administers Morrie's medication. After he takes his pills, Morrie asks Mitch if he shall tell him what it feels like to be dying. This conversation, then unbeknownst to Mitch, marks the beginning of their first lesson

Mitch flashes back to his freshman year of college. He is younger than most of the students and tries to look older by wearing an old gray sweatshirt and dangling an unlit cigarette from his lips, even though he does not smoke. He builds a facade of toughness, though it is Morrie's "softness" that he finds so inviting. He enrolls for another class with Morrie, who he reports is an easy grader. One year, Morrie gave A's to all the young men who were in jeopardy of being drafted to fight in the Vietnam War. Mitch nicknames Morrie "Coach," and Morrie tells him that he can be his player, as Mitch can play the parts that Morrie is now too old for. They eat together in the cafeteria, and Mitch notes that Morrie is a slob when he chews; during their friendship, he has harbored two great desires for Morrie: to hug him and to give him a napkin.

The Classroom

Morrie's appearance on "Nightline" has made him somewhat of a celebrity, and many people call and ask to come visit. This makes Mitch remember the college friends he has lost touch with. He wonders what has happened to him in the time that has lapsed between college and the present. Essentially, he has traded the dreams he had in youth for wealth and success. However, his financial success alone does not satisfy him. Morrie struggles to eat his meal, and when he is finished, tells Mitch that many of his visitors are unhappy, which he thinks is a result of the culture. Morrie expresses the gratitude he feels for having love around him while he dies, which he says is better than living unhappily. Mitch is shocked by his lack of self-pity, namely the gratitude he feels for his slow, painful death. He is forever haunted by Morrie's explanation that he will die of suffocation, as the ALS will eventually attack his lungs. Mitch avoids an honest response, and Morrie urges him to accept death, as it is clear that he has no more than five months left to live. To prove his imminent death, Morrie demonstrates for Mitch a test that his doctor asked him to take. He first asks Mitch to inhale, then exhale while counting to the highest number he can. Mitch counts to seventy. Morrie can only reach eighteen before he must gasp for air. When he first saw the doctor, Morrie was able to count to twenty-three. At the end of the visit, Morrie asks Mitch to promise to come and see him again, as he did at Mitch's graduation sixteen years before. Mitch promises he will, and tries not to think of the last time he made and broke this same promise.

In another flashback to his college days, Mitch remembers Morrie's love of books. One afternoon, he complains to Morrie of feeling confused about what is expected of him versus what he wants for himself. In reply, Morrie explains his theory on the "tension of opposites," meaning that life pulls alternately back and forth, like a wrestling match. Love, he says, always wins.

3. What is the summary of tuesday with morrie ninth

TUESDAY WITH MORRIE

Morrie had been a poor kid throughout his life. Charlie, Morrie's father, had been cold and uncaring, and had failed to emotionally and financially support him and his younger brother. Morrie, the only one in his family who can read English, must decipher the telegram that brings word of his mother's death at the age of eight. Charlie marries Eva, a lovely woman who loves and cares for Morrie and his brother. Morrie's love of books and desire to learn is also instilled in him by Eva.

Morrie, on the other hand, insists on keeping his mother's death a secret because he wants Morrie's younger brother to believe that Eva is his biological mother, which he does. Morrie's desire to keep his mother's death a secret is a huge emotional weight for him, and he maintains the telegram as proof of his mother's existence for the rest of his life. Morrie seeks love and affection from his family and friends in his latter years because he was deprived of it as a child. Morrie believes he has reverted to a figurative infancy now that he is nearing death, and tries to "enjoy being a baby again" in earnest. He and Mitch often hold hands during their sessions together.

10. laura by petrarch translated by morris bishop rhyme scheme

Laura by Petrarch, Translated by Morris Bishop

She used to let her golden hair fly free

   For the wind to toy and tangle and molest;

Her eyes were brighter than the radiant west.

(Seldom they shine so now.) I used to see

Pity look out of those deep eyes on me.

("It was false pity," you would now protest.)

   I had love's tinder heaped within my breast;

What wonder that the flame burned furiously?

She did not walk in any mortal way,

But with angelic progress; when she spoke,

   Unearthly voices sang in unison,

She seemed divine among the dreary folk

Of earth. You say she is not so today?

Well, though the bow's unbent, the wound bleeds on.

11. Spring by morris bishop translated in filipino

15. what is the meaning of spring by morris bishop

In any form of literature and art, spring always signifies life, youth, and the return of vitality.

But in Morris Bishop's reference to spring in his poem, he points out that spring might be a bad thing. It turns the wine sour and the wild vines only blossoming with a few buds.

This could be interpreted as an old person's refusal to accept change. When one has been set in his ways for so many years, change can be very difficult to accept. They may think that it "sours the wine", but in reality the souring is part of the process to turn grape into wine.

24. Aneesha travels at a rate of 50 miles per hour. Morris is traveling 3 feet per second less then aneesha. Which is the best estimate of the speed Morris is traveling

Answer:

70.33 feet per second

Step-by-step explanation:

This is a unit conversion problem (for more details on converting units, see https://brainly.ph/question/2071065).

We are given two rates that have different units: miles/hr (Aneesha's speed) and ft/s (Morris' speed). If the two were the same, we can just subtract the two to find out Morris' speed. However, they are not so the first step is to make the units of both Aneesha's and Morris' speeds consistent. We will use ft/s.

Aneesha's speed

Morris' rate is already in ft/s, so we need to convert only Aneesha's speed from miles/hr to ft/s. To do this, we will need values that would convert:

miles to feethours to seconds

These values, called conversion factors, are 5280 ft/mile (see https://brainly.ph/question/868671) and 3600 s/hr (see https://brainly.ph/question/1543759). We then use them to convert Aneesha's speed from miles/hr to ft/s:

[tex]50 \frac{\text{miles}}{\text{hr}} \times \frac{5280 \text{ ft}}{1 \text{ mile}} \times \frac{1 \text{ hr}}{3600 \text{ s}}=73.33 \frac{\text{ft}}{\text{s}}[/tex]

Therefore, Aneesha's speed, in feet per second, is 73.33, or 73.33 ft/s.

Morris' speed

What we know is that Morris travels slower than Aneesha by 3 feet per second. Hence, we expect that Morris' speed is Aneesha's speed minus 3 ft/s, or

[tex]73.33 \frac{\text{ft}}{\text{s}} - 3 \frac{\text{ft}}{\text{s}} = 70.33 \frac{\text{ft}}{\text{s}}[/tex]

Therefore, Morris' speed is 70.33 feet per second.

Tip

We can express the given rates and conversion factors as fractions and cancel out unneeded units. The resulting answer should reflect the units we desire.

26. Tuesdaya With Morrie synopsis

Answer:

Morrie Schwartz was Mitch Albom’s favorite college professor. At the start of the novel Albom recalls a memory from his college graduation day: he is saying goodbye to Morrie and gives him a tan briefcase with his initials on it. They hug and when Mitch steps back he sees that Morrie is crying. Mitch promises to stay in touch with Morrie but he never does after college.

Since his graduation, Mitch has become a newspaper reporter and husband. He leads a very fast paced life and is constantly working and traveling. He has become so engrossed in his work that it consumes his life.

The novel recommences about sixteen years after Mitch’s graduation day; Morrie has since been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS. Since Morrie’s diagnosis, he began jotting down ideas and thoughts onto scrap paper, yellow pads or even envelopes. He also wrote philosophies about living knowing death was very near. One of his friends was so taken with his writing, he sent them to the Boston Globe reporter, who wrote a feature story about Morrie. The story intrigued one of the producers of the show, “Nightline”, who then did a feature story about Morrie. Mitch happened to see the “Nightline” show and recognized his old professor. He called him to set up a visit.

Mitch began visiting Morrie every Tuesday. Their discussions ranged from the world, regrets, death, love and money; the purpose of their meetings was to discuss Morrie’s view on the meaning of life. Mitch became so intrigued by Morrie’s philosophies that he began taking notes and even recording Morrie.

Morrie’s philosophies included rejecting popular culture morals and following self-created values, loving others, and learning to accept death.

With each lesson, Morrie becomes increasingly sick; during their last meeting, Morrie was bed ridden and near death. As he and Mitch hugged for one last time, Morrie notices Mitch is finally crying.

Morrie dies a short time after. At his funeral Mitch tries having a conversation with Morrie, as he had wanted. Mitch feels a certain naturalness and comfort to this conversation and realizes that it happens to be Tuesday.

After Morrie’s death Mitch regains contact with his brother who lives in Spain and is battling cancer.
